What to Wear

Many racegoers enjoy the chance to dress up for the occasion, especially in the hospitality areas. However we have no specific dress code, you are welcome to wear whatever makes you comfortable and is appropriate for the weather – which can be very changeable! Shorts are acceptable on warm days but we do ask that tops are worn at all times, in all areas. In terms of footwear, bear in mind that most of the racecourse is grassy and uneven, and can be wet.

In the Louis Roederer Restaurant and Parade Ring Restaurant, we kindly ask for smart, casual clothing, no jeans or trainers.

What to Bring

A day at the races in this beautiful Cumbrian landscape can bring glorious sunshine, torrential rain and everything in between! We recommend you dress for the weather and your own comfort, and allow for changeable conditions.

You’re welcome to bring along everything you need to cater for your day, including picnic furniture, windbreaks, rugs, food and drink. Please see the Gazebo section for further details.

You may also want to bring suncream, hats, brollies, wellies, binoculars, cash and a payment card.

Food & Drink

One of the many things that makes Cartmel so special is that you’re more than welcome to bring your own food and drink, including alcohol! Set up for an exciting day’s racing with your picnic chairs, cool boxes, and refreshments.

Take advantage of our wide selection of food and beverage concessions, representing some of the best of local Lake District produce. From hand-stretched wood-fired pizzas to Korean fried chicken, there’s something for everyone, washed down with a glass of fizz or a pint of Lakeland’s finest ale.

Traditional burgers, local seafood and street food also feature on both sides of the racecourse, along with the ever popular ice cream van … and don’t forget to take home a world famous Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding!
