The big news this month isn’t Google Gemini losing a court case for fibbing in its AI summaries, it isn’t Microsoft calling out that AI companies stealing business customers IP is wrong No, it is that after three years of fantastic leadership, our u3a AI Subject Advisor, Barry Claydon, is stepping down as our leader. Barry has done a brilliant job of leading a team of enthusiastic volunteers to bring an educated understanding of what Generative AI is to thousands, probably tens of thousands, of u3a members. Please join me in thanking Barry for this sterling contribution. After some arm twisting I have agreed to take over as AI Subject Advisor. If you would like to join our AI for Everyone project team please do get in touch. Help with managing our speaker programme or issuing this monthly newsletter would be greatly appreciated. We have been approached by Birmingham and Adelaide Universities to see if anyone would be interested in helping with a research project into the risks and opportunities created by Artificial Intelligence in assisting older adults (above the age of 65) with financial planning. If you have used a banking app or an AI chatbot or a financial companies’ support chatbot and are willing to be interviewed please contact christa.viljoen@adelaide.edu.au Christa is hoping to complete 12 interviews by the end of July so contact her without delay if interested. You will not need to share any financial information. Christa has promised to share their findings with us on an AI News in 2027.
